Grabbing My Blog and Going Home

by jtr (John Truscott Reese), on 2026-04-25

Note my subtle scheme to get this to come up in searches for “jtr’s blog.”

I’ve moved off Medium to here, the blog platform I wrote: https://blog.jtr.name/. All the existing posts are also available here.

Subscribe to the mailing list, or use the RSS link if that’s your thing.

Instead of a built-in commenting system, new posts will be announced in a post to the Fediverse, where you can respond with comments if you are willing to use Mastodon or Threads.

I want to blog more, and I’m tired of Medium, its paywall, its notifications of articles I’m not willing to pay to read, and it’s hard to get my pages well-ranked on search engines for terms like “jtr’s blog.” I know a lot of people use Substack — I tried it out, in support of a now-deceased podcast — but I find it too pushy. (Also, and I’m sure this is not relatable, but it feels fundamentally unsafe to have things I’ve written whose canonical storage is a WYSIWIG thing on somebody else’s servers, instead of a text file under revision control.)

What both Medium and Substack do have is nice page layouts. But we live in an era where code is cheap, and I think I’ve emulated the best features of both.

Looking forward to posting more soon!
